• Need to know what your student should be doing at home???

Ideally, history is designed for the work to be completed in class. Occasionally though, work needs to be finished at home. This is usually due to an absence, students being called out of class, and of course, some students just don't work as quickly as others for various reasons. In this case there are a few options to how to find out what's going on in class.
    • First - ask them. Be persistent...don't ask if they have homework (we all know what 2-letter word the majority of teenagers will respond with!) instead ask them what they are studying in history. What time period are they on, what major historical event just occurred, any current events being discussed?
    • Ask to see the work, ask if it's finished. Feel free to make suggestions, encourage them to add more detail or to fix an error. I do not consider this "cheating" - I think this is a great way for parents to get involved, and to increase the learning of your student.
    • Check Google Classroom. You will not be able to create an account, but your student should log in and show you the class. I have a class calendar that will show what is being done every day - including due dates.
    • Check the Parent Connection for Zangle. If you don't have a password, then your student can also log in and show you. Please remember though, that Zangle will show finished, graded assignments. Sometimes this is an "after effect" as opposed to a proactive one, but it will still give you a good idea of your student's activity in the class.
Please let me know if your student is not openly sharing Google Classroom or Zangle with you - It is important that parents, teachers and students work together. I have found that many times a low grade or frustrated parent is due to a lack of communication. If we work together than success is much greater.
